Uptown Block Party Returns Bigger and Better in 2024

Uptown Shelby Association is thrilled to announce the return of the Uptown Block Party and promises this year to be bigger and better than ever. The event, which will take place on Saturday, May 18th, will feature three incredible bands, a variety of food and retail vendors, and a Kid Zone that offers fun for the whole family.

Attendees can look forward to a Saturday filled with non-stop entertainment starting at 11:00 a.m. and going until 9:00 p.m. From beach to rock to country to pop, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Local band Ocean Blvd kicks off our live music line-up at 12:00 p.m., followed by too MUCH SyLviA at 2:00 p.m., and The Tonez at 6:00 p.m.

One of the most exciting updates to the Uptown Block Party in 2024 is the increased number of vendors. Community partners, snack and drink sellers, and Uptown businesses will join us on Washington Street, creating a diverse marketplace for attendees to explore. From delicious food to unique retail offerings, there will be plenty to discover at the event. Plus enjoy the vibrancy of Uptown Shelby’s restaurants, retail shops, and bars, all open to the public.

The Uptown Block Party is only possible with support from sponsors and partners, who have been instrumental in making it bigger and better this year. Uptown Shelby would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our Premier Sponsors, Katie Bradley Real Estate Team and Mathewson Mortgage Capital, LCC, for their generous support. Their contributions have allowed us to provide hospitality amenities such as picnic tables and souvenir koozies, as well as cover fees for our vendors.

In addition to the incredible bands and vendors, the Uptown Block Party will also feature a Kid Zone that is sure to delight young attendees. With face painting, free balloon art, and games for the whole family, there will be endless entertainment options for children of all ages. We would like to thank our Kid Zone Sponsor, Pink Paradise Wellness & Day Spa, for their support in creating a fun and engaging experience for our youngest guests.

Last year, the Uptown Shelby Association tested the waters with a smaller version of the Uptown Block Party, and the response from the local community was overwhelmingly positive. Despite rescheduling due to rain, the event was a success, and it was clear that there was a demand for more music-filled celebrations on Washington Street. With the decision to put Shelby Alive on hiatus, our Promotions Committee saw an opportunity to expand the Uptown Block Party into a summer kick-off that would bring the community together in a whole new way.

The Uptown Block Party, inspired by the Five O’Clock Block Parties of the 1990s, has always been a celebration of the local community, and the Uptown Shelby Association is thrilled to see the growing interest in the event. Local interest has already reached thousands online, and our Board hopes to see a full street on May 18th. We can't wait to welcome everyone to this year's Uptown Block Party and create lasting memories together.
