Looking for more information on the Social District signs and stickers you'll be seeing around Uptown? Our staff breaks it down in this post - read on for all the details. If you still have questions, please feel free to reach out to us.

Businesses within Uptown Shelby are allowed to opt in or out of the Social District. For a current list of participating businesses and the levels at which they participate, please click here.

"SOLD HERE"

The slate grey Sold Here label indicates businesses that have fully opted in to the Social District, which means patrons may purchase an alcoholic beverage "to-go" from this establishment and may bring in alcoholic beverages purchased "to-go" from other permitted establishments within in the district.

You can purchase a beverage at Restaurant A (Sold Here), and bring that beverage with you to Restaurant B, as long as Restaurant B is also listed as Sold Here.

Sold Here businesses have ABC retail permits from the North Carolina ABC Commission.

"SOLD HERE + No Outside Beverages"

The dark yellow Sold Here + No Outside Beverages label indicates businesses that have opted in to the Social District with the condition that beverages from other establishments may not be brought onto their premises. Patrons may purchase an alcoholic beverage "to-go" from this establishment, but may not bring in outside alcoholic beverages.

In this instance, if you purchase a beverage at Restaurant B (Sold Here), and Restaurant C is listed as Sold Here + No Outside Beverages, you must finish the beverage from Restaurant B and dispose of your cup before entering Restaurant C.

Sold Here + No Outside Beverages businesses also have ABC retail permits from the North Carolina ABC Commission.

"Welcomed HEre"

The teal Welcomed Here label indicates businesses that have opted in to the Social District but do not sell ABC-regulated beverages. This tier includes boutiques, studios, dessert shops and other specialty retailers. Patrons cannot purchase alcoholic beverages in these businesses, but may bring in beverages purchased "to-go" from other permitted establishments within in the district.

Here, you can purchase a beverage at Restaurants A (Sold Here), B (Sold Here), or C (Sold Here + No Outside Beverages) and bring that beverage with you to shop at Store D (Welcomed Here).

Welcomed Here businesses do not have ABC retail permits from the North Carolina ABC Commission and are not licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.

Some retail, beauty, spa, and gallery locations may choose to offer alcohol for free at special events happening within their business. This is permitted under NC ABC laws as long as only beer and/or unfortified wine are served for free to guests age 21 and over, and the business has permission from the premise owner. (Learn more about this on the ABC Commission NC Website.)

"Not Permitted Here"

The eye-catching orange Not Permitted Here label indicates businesses that have opted out of the Social District. Patrons are not allowed under any circumstances to bring beverages to these establishments, nor are they able to purchase an alcoholic beverage "to-go" from these locations.

Any business with the orange Not Permitted Here label does not allow outside beverages. Please be sure to properly dispose of any Social District cups in the appropriate containers before entering these establishments.

Some, but not all of the Not Permitted Here businesses also have ABC retail permits from the North Carolina ABC Commission. However, beverages purchased at these locations must be finished on-premise.
