This program is temporarily on hold due to our limited capacity following the departure of one of our two full-time staff members. We will post a notice here and on Facebook when we resume accepting proposals.

CALL TO ARTISTS: Uptown Shelby temporary public art

The Uptown Shelby Association is looking for artists to create temporary public art pieces for display in the Uptown Shelby district in 2021.

Temporary public art pieces could include murals, installations, lighting displays, chalk art, RainWorks art, and other concepts.

Interested artists must review the full guidelines document (available here - UPDATED 6/25/2021) and submit a complete proposal, including contact information, project description, proposed location, schedule, itemized costs, and renderings along with the artist's resume and images of the artist's other work. Designs must be appropriate for public display and should not include political or sexual content or any business logos, slogans, or advertising.

We are interested in supporting the addition of creative designs to Uptown Shelby – whether they are a fun backdrop for photos and/or make a statement about Shelby’s past, present, or future.

Permission from the property owner(s) of the proposed location is of the utmost importance.

Interested artists should submit their proposal to USA for review before beginning the project. For USA to pay for the project, work should not begin until you receive a response in writing from USA.

If approved, artists will be paid partially in advance for materials and the remainder upon completion.

Deadline to apply is quarterly until the funds run out. Artists will be notified in a timely manner.
